Alyssa Schueler quickly finished tacking up her horse Lorraine to avoid being late to class. She was running a bit late anyways because her polo and jacket needed to be ironed, but hopefully not too late. The girl finished buckling the noseband and throatlatch on hr mare's bridle and grabbed her riding stick on the way out. Hopefully she wouldn't need it, but Misty wasn't always the best horse in the world. Outside, the girl could see several other riders walking their horses towards the arena and Ali followed suit. Her horse was being a bit slow, but not uncomplient.
In the arena, the girl took a moment to tighten the horse's girth with much head shaking. "Oh come on, Misty. I'm not killing you!" She shoved her Charles Owen helmet on her head and lead her horse to the mountin block. Many of the riders had already mounted, but Alyssa wasn't dead last. Unless she had magically grown three inches in two days, Ali doubted that she would need to check the stirrup length on her own saddle. Once mounted, she asked the mare to walk forward and give the space to another rider. She watched as the others circled around their teacher and halted Misty to the man's left. Many of the names she didn't recognize but Alyssa had known about Canton Hale long before today. Even in Barrington, the girl's horsemanship and success in the show ring were well known. Alyssa had never competed against the well known rider and desperately hoped that this girl wasn't completely stuck up in her wealth. A few more riders introduced themselves uintil finally it was Alyssa's turn. "I'm Alyssa Schueler and this Lorraine. I ride primarily hunters and use my second horse, Articulate, for eq."
The teacher gave his instructions and everyone dispersed. Alyssa quietly noted that some of the riders were clumping in one end of the arena. She cut across the centerline to give herself and her horse more room. She started off by asking Misty to frame-up and horse responded quickly and obediently to the command. The girl did feel a little subconscious about riding a grey thoroughbred, but Misty was well suited for Ali and that was reason enough to ride the mare. Having tracked around the arena once at the walk, Ali squeezed her calves against the horse's sides to move forward into a working trot. When the mare didn't respond immediately, the girl reinforced the command with a small kick. That got the Thoroughbred moving. To warm up, Ali practiced a few circles and cutting across the diagonal. She collected her horse for the sitting trot. Alyssa kept warming up as riders took the line one by one but made sure to stay well away of any intended path of travel.
The first rider got through the line even if it wasn't the prettiest display. Alyssa was well aware that not every line was perfect, but it wasn't horrible either. The second rider had a good in but a much poorer out. Alyssa had been told that a less than perfect in followed by a good out was better than the opposite. Ali thought that the fourth girl was a total mess. The horse had a sloppy in and the girl nearly fell off in the out. Alyssa just watched without any emotion whatsoever. The fourth girl, Pheobe, was good. Her line was perfect except for the half change at the end. Canton as predicted, was flawless. The first girl, Audrey, jumped the line again. It wasn't great, but looked better than the the first time. Now it was Alyssa's turn. She held her horse and balanced her on the long side of the rail before asking for the canter. Her horse picked up the correct lead but was getting a bit racey. Ali half halted and collected her horse to a more manageable speed, still making sure that she had plenty of leg and impuslion. The girl rode with a light seat and quiet hands and shoved her right heel down every time she felt it creeping up. She turned towards the fake stone wall and the flowers, calling out her intentions. "Line!"
Ali rode her mare to the base of the jump and let her horse come to her before reaching up into two point. She jumped the in with an automatic release. Her leg supported her weight and kicked forward slightly to avoid kicking back. Misty was known to have a huge stride down the lines and Ali responded appropriately, collecting to make the line a slow six. Lorraine was totally unfazed by the flowers but left the ground for the second jump with a slight gap. Ali was ready for that and moved into two point with a short crest release. She stepped into her outside stirrup and over the jump, set her horse up for the lead change. Upon landing, Lorraine was already on the correct lead, but the momentum was slipping behind the rider's leg. The rider circled once before bringing her horse back down to a trot and then to a walk. She felt that the line was successful. Maybe the girl wasn't as bad as she had orginally thought when riding at such a prestigious academy.
((I swear that this look ten times shorter when I typed it.))

As Jinx tried to bite the horse in front of her's butt, Maddie pulled back, and cut across the ring to make room. Maddie's face looked like a giant cherry. She was so embarrassed. She continued, moving into a canter. As it came to her turn, she centered Jinx on the first jump, soaring over it with ease. They were over the next few without a flaw, except for one time when Jinx clipped the rail, though it luckily didn't fall down.
