"Bye Carlos, and thanks again!" Phoebe called into the hallway after the friendly, Hispanic man. Not only had he driven the teen and her four horses from Florida to Kentucky, he had stayed to help unload them and bring Phoebe's stuff to her room. Of course this wasn't the only time he'd had to lug her to a new school, but Phoebe just never expected him to be so kind.
Phoebe worked quickly, starting to unpack by hanging her show shirts and show coats right beside her show breeches. Her nice helmet sat on the closet floor in a box, along with extra strings, hairnets, three pairs of black, leather gloves, and a spare choker of every color. Her other equipment, like her not as nice helmet, were to stay in her tack trunk. She, unlike most riders she'd known, did not own two pairs of tall boots. Only one, but they were nice, Ariat Monaco. She had taken them up here, since those boots were pretty much her prized object.
Phoebe slid open the opposite door to the closet and started hanging various dresses and jeans. All shirts were put in drawers, and shoes on the floor. She had a lot of clothes, but other than school itself, Phoebe didn't know when she would actually wear any of it. Her agenda for the next three years was simple. Ride horses, and get a good education. That's it. No sideshows. No socialization. And definitely no boys.
She started putting some of her less expensive breeches in another drawer with her polo shirts, but then her phone rang. Phoebe sat on the floor for a second, just listening to the ringtone. She then pressed 'Accept Call' and heard her older sister's voice.
"PJ? PJ, are you at the school?" Caroline asked quietly. Phoebe was sure Paxton was sleeping in his little bed right beside her.
"I made it. I'm here. It's bigger than Foxcroft even." Phoebe said just as quietly. "Did you do some work in the studio today?"
"No, no one could watch Paxton."
Phoebe frowned. "Care, how are you going to deal with another one and your career?"
"PJ, I don't know. Just.. just don't worry about it." Caroline sniffled. "I just wanted to see if you were okay."
Phoebe rolled her eyes. How could she not worry about it? "I'm fine." Phoebe spun around to the obnoxious sound of the door being unlocked. "Look, I got to go. Tell Paxton I miss him." And she hung up. Phoebe looked toward the door to see who was coming in.
