The course is as follows: 3 to 4 is a 4 stride. 7 to 8 is a 6 stride. 5 to 6 is a 2 stride. 9 is the unlabeled jump, and it is part of the course. Halfway between 8 and nine, in front of the ingate, is a halt for 8 seconds, then canter 9. 7 is a trot jump.

Your image here [/img] A HORSE GALLOPS WITH ITS LUNGS PERSEVERES WITH ITS HEART AND WINS WITH ITS CHARACTER Alyssa Schueler stared intently at the course diagram tacked to a board. It looked pretty straight forward for a Hunter course. Her horse was standing beside her, trying to munch on the nearby grass. Once she was sure that the course was memorized, Ali mounted up using the mounting block just outside of the schooling ring. She walked in with her horse and trotted around, keeping an eye on the other competitors and an ear open for her trip to be called. Eventually, she figured that waiting and watching a few trips wouldn’t hurt her round. Ali left the schooling ring and stood near to the in gate, waiting for her trip. She heard her name being announced and entered after a quick word of good luck from John Berkeley who was standing by at the time.
She trotted in and the picked up the canter, asking her mare for a decently sized stride. Lorraine responded and the pair were riding towards the first jump with good rhythm. They sailed neatly over the first fence, a simple vertical with yellow flowers at its base and small trees flanking the standards. To jump two was a sweeping turn. Relatively easy to execute and maintain impulsion. Alyssa asked for a little more canter, but tried to keep a balanced stride. They jumped over the oxer with perfect form. Around another corner to fence three with a lead change. Lorraine chipped in to the third fence, but the line was still able to be ridden in four strides with a much better out. Ali asked her mare to open up a bit towards five and let the horse get to the bottom of the fence before jumping. The line was ridden in a long two, but very successful. Another lead change and a downward transition to a working trot to fence seven. Lorraine trotted in and cantered out for the six stride line. It was a bit shorter, but eight was flawless. Alyssa slowed for the halt by the ingate and stood motionless for the required eight seconds before picking up a canter immediately for nine. Nine made for a strong finish to a good round. With the course finished, Ali let the mare slow to a trot, circled once and left the arena.
