---------------------------------------------------------well it’s a big big city and it’s always the samecan never be too pretty, tell me your name--------------------------------------------------------- Audrey had gotten in trouble in the first fifteen minutes of being at North Creek. She knew they were top-notch and strict, but not that strict. The story is as follows:
She had unloaded Winston and started to put him in his stall, but the indoor arena was deserted and her mother was busy with paperwork. There was no way she'd be getting out of there in the next fifteen minutes, so Audrey led her gelding out the arena and clambered up on his back. She just wanted to walk around and stretch him out after the long trailer ride. Besides, she had a lead rope attached to the halter! It wasn't like she was out of control! Before they got halfway across the arena, a groom leaned into the arena and started shouting at her to get off the horse.
Audrey almost shouted back a quantity of profanity, but thought better of it and slid off Winston's back. She led him back, easy as you please, and put him in his stall. The aforementioned groom continued to yell at her about improper dress and how she'd better not do it again or she was in big trouble. Audrey had hmph'ed at him and flounced away.
As luck would have it, her mother was done with the paperwork and helped her unload her suitcases into the dorm. There wasn't anyone there, and all the better. If she could fume to herself, no one would get in the way of her screeching into pillows or throwing things around the room.
Audrey unpacked her iPod and plugged it into her speakers. She turned up the volume to "Party Rock Anthem" and started pulling out bedding and clothes. Might as well get the riding gear set up first, if they were going to be so anal about breeches and boots all the time. Audrey had only started wearing breeches outside of shows in the past year, having always just worn jeans, paddock boots, and half chaps if they weren't too dirty.
This was going to be a difficult transition.

Alyssa was flopped on her new bed, resting after the long journey. Her horses were put away, her bags were mostly unpacked, and her space set up. So far, the girl hadn't seen any of her roomates, but that was of little concern. They could go over space rules and whatnot later. The girl closed her eyes for a bit, planning on taking a short nap. Barely a few minutes later and the noise of her neighbors woke the young equestrian. She considered yelling, but somehow Ali doubted that the offender would hear over the music. Alyssa was usually pretty compliant with all types of music, but techno turned to max just annoyed her. She got up and decided to pay her neighbor a visit. Besides, there might also be an ironing board she could borrow since if there was one in her own room, Ali had yet to find it. Grabbing the key off a table, the junior exited the room into the deserted hallway. She walked the few paces to get to the other room and stood in front of it for a moment before banging on the door with as much force as humanely possible.
The girl was dressed nicely. She was wearing a well fitting polo short, a cardigan, dark blue jeans that had recently been cleaned of all dirt back home, and had her hair up in a loose ponytail. She was wearing her paddock boots which were reasonably clean even after getting her horses set up in their stalls and moving her tack around. Alyssa felt a little underdressed, but not overly so. Looking down at herelf, Alyssa noticed that she still had her gelding's spare martingale draped over one shoulder. She had put it in her suitcase by accident and must have thrown it over herself while unpacking. Oh, well. There were worse things in life to be seen with. Ali waited patiently, though the sound was seriously grating on her nerves.

---------------------------------------------------------well it’s a big big city and it’s always the samecan never be too pretty, tell me your name--------------------------------------------------------- Audrey got into the beat of the music, swinging her hips as she tossed breeches and assorted shirts into her closet. Music always helped her mood, but it took a little while. She wasn't quite calmed down when she heard a loud banging on her door. Who the hell was that? She wasn't moving furniture, her music wasn't offensive, and she hadn't been singing. Plus, it was the middle of the day! No one was trying to sleep or anything, and if they were, well, they needed to get up anyway.
Audrey paused the music and flung the shirt she was holding at her bed. She walked to the door, scowl on her face, and pulled it open. "Can I help you?" she said. Audrey threw all of her annoyance at the world in to the confrontation. She didn't know who this girl was, which meant if she pissed her off, nothing horribly bad would happen. Audrey cocked a hip and planted a hand on it, blocking off the entrance to her room. Unless this girl made a quick retreat, there wouldn't be an easy way to avoid the rage of one Audrey McHenry.

"Can I help you?"
"Would you mind turning the music down a notch or two? I can hear it really clearly on the other side of the wall." Alyssa noticed the displeasure this other girl was expressing. Hey, it was her fault for not remembering that other people lived in the dorms, too. However, Ali knew when a girl was seriously ticked. This stranger was the textbook case of "seriously ticked". The girl took a step back just to avoid being the firing range. She didn't want trouble on the first day. Generally, Alyssa was nice and well behaved. She didn't even mind this girl listening to her music. The problem was that it was just a bit too loud for comfort.
"I'm really sorry for disturbing you and I hope you don't take it personally" I do not want enemies this fast. Honestly, some girls overreact so much to a tiny request. I heard there were going to be some famous riders here. Considering that I don't recognize her from the papers, I doubt she's that well known. I'll give her a chance, but this girl has the vibes of a snob. Alyssa tugged nervously at her shirt collar. She wasn't asking for trouble in the least. The girl tried to keep her breathing even and calm, but the waves emitted were very stressful. It was like a bomb was going to explode and Ali held her ground.

---------------------------------------------------------well it’s a big big city and it’s always the samecan never be too pretty, tell me your name--------------------------------------------------------- "Fine," Audrey replied, voice clipped and unfriendly. She gave a fake smile, stepped back, and shut the door. No use getting in to a full-out fight. She turned to go back to her unpacking, but halfway there, she realized that her shoulders weren't tense anymore and she really wasn't so annoyed at the world. Just a few words were enough to vent her anger so that she could function normally again.
She stopped in the middle of the floor, took a deep breath to clear her mind completely. Then, Audrey turned back to the door and pulled it open once again. This time, she adopted a less confrontational posture with the door open wider. "Hey, look..." Embarrassed pause. "I'm sorry for how I acted. I'm really stressed right now and I guess I just lashed out," she explained.
There wasn't much she could do besides hope for forgiveness, and hope that this girl wasn't as high-strung as she was. If they were of similar temperaments, Audrey figured she just made an enemy. That was an idea; the first other student she met, and they hated each other. It would make life interesting, at least; Audrey didn't much like the idea of a school year where everyone liked her. That wouldn't be much fun at all.

Well, that was a success...not. Alyssa had hoped that there wouldn't be a lot of hot headed, egocentric students here. They kind of rubbed her the wrong way most of the time. She could work with the rich kids being one of them herself. Maybe not multi-millionare rich, but rich enough. There was also the difference in skill level. So what if she hadn't won Maclay and Medal ten times? The girl felt honored that she was allowed to compete in those. However, Ali knew nothing about this other girl other than she was hot headed and liked techno music. Alyssa was cooler and more forgiving.
"Hey, look, I'm sorry for how I acted. I'm really stressed right now and I guess I just lashed out."
Okay, correction on the hot headedness. Maybe she wouldn't be so bad after all. "It's alright. We're all stressed from traveling. I'm Alyssa Schueler from Illinois--Zone 5. Yourself?" Truth be told, Alyssa had no idea how the other girl would react. She was trying to be calm and polite, but in such a big school, the definition of polite might be different than back at home. After all, there were famous riders attending North Creek. Considering that Ali didn't recognize this one, she figured that the other girl was not one of those big name riders. Ali had made a point to keep up to date on all the Hunter, Eq, and Jumper news and knew most of the really famous junior riders.

---------------------------------------------------------well it’s a big big city and it’s always the samecan never be too pretty, tell me your name--------------------------------------------------------- Audrey could literally feel herself calming down. Her heart stopped pounding, her breathing was slowing down, and the blush she had in her cheeks was cooling off. She didn't like being angry, per say, it was just an easy state to be in. "Tell me about it. I was on the road for twelve hours, total. We had to stop off halfway through," Audrey complained. "I'm Audrey McHenry. Zone two - Pennsylvania."
Alyssa Schueler... Audrey didn't recognize the name, but they were from different zones. She didn't pay too much attention to results, anyway. She was odd in that respect, especially for the hunter princesses that seemed to populate the whole school. She watched everyone from her barn, but usually there was too much other stuff to do for her to hang around ringside for a whole day. She knew the really, really big names, and she knew which trainers had which kids, but that was the limit of her knowledge.
"Question: Is everyone here supposed to be, like, super-famous or rich or something? I'm kinda worried I'm gonna turn out to be a total loser compared to everyone else," she asked conversationally. It was a real worry, although a little bit played up. Audrey wasn't going to change how she acted or how she rode (except for improving her equitation, but that was what she was here for anyway) for people who bought their way to the top.

"Tell me about it. I was on the road for twelve hours, total. We had to stop off halfway through. I'm Audrey McHenry. Zone two - Pennsylvania."
"I was on the road for eight hours. I still feel like a zombie! Anyways, it's nice to meet you even if we did have a rough first meeting." Alyssa didn't recognize the name Audrey McHenry, but they were from different zones. While Alyssa wasn't really afraid of much in coming here, she was concerned that all the other riders would be famous and know each other and look at her like some little upstart beetle or something. In her own right, Ali considered herself to be a good rider. Good enough at least to be accepted into North Creek. At the very least, her parents were rich enough to send her here by paying the tuition fees. Surely not all the riders could attest to as much. Her own musings were interrupted when Audrey started to speak again.
"Question: Is everyone here supposed to be, like, super-famous or rich or something? I'm kinda worried I'm gonna turn out to be a total loser compared to everyone else."
That was a good question and Ali didn't know the answer. She figured that a lot of riders were very good since it was an AA Circuit level school. The horses had to be good or else people wouldn't ride them in the upper levels. "I wouldn't worry about it too much. My parents are wealthy enough to send me here, but I'm far from famous. I would assume that there's going to be some really famous riders going here which might shift the odds in their favor at shows or something. If you're okay with taking advice from a stranger, do your best with the horse you have and don't get too discouraged by the other students." Ali decided that she should follow her own advice. Even though some riders would enter this place knowing each other, it was a school and there were competitions. Alyssa figured that friendships would be made along with enemies, friendships would be broken, and it would be just like any other riding academy--competitive to the max.
